Opera Garnier and Galeries Lafayette With Kids

Opera Garnier and Galeries Lafayette With Kids

Activity: Opera Garnier and Galeries Lafayette. Metro Stop: Opera. Cost: Free, until you get to the toy sections and have to buy your kid a cute Parisian toy. Hours: Galeries Lafayette is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 8.30pm and on Sundays from 11am to 8pm.

Start with Opera Garnier. "The PHANTOM of the Opera is here... inside your mind." This is a beautiful theater built for Napoleon III. It's built on top of a subterranean lake, a perfect lair for The Phantom of the Opera. Yup, this is THE opera house that inspired Phantom! You can take a tour or just admire it from the outside. Personally, I hate taking guided tours with young kids, but if you have musical theater nerd teens with you, it might be worth it.

The tour info is a little complicated and changes with the seasons, so here is where you can get the most updated information and hours! Of course another way to see the interior would be to book tickets to a performance, though I don’t think you would get to see the lake.

Next to The Opera Garnier stands Galeries Lafayette. This is a gorgeous mall with huge departments and a sensational dome. Take the escalator to the top floor. They have an excellent fancy toy section with tons of wooden toys and ride-on vehicles. If you're in a hurry, it’s worth a quick walk in and peek at the dome.
